Services for pregnant and parenting teens to help them to graduate from high school or obtain the equivalent degree

Eligibility & How to Apply

You are required to participate in Cal-Learn if you are pregnant or a parenting teen receiving CalWORKs and meet all of the criteria below:

  • You are under the age of 19.
  • You live in the same household as your child(ren),
  • You have not graduated high school or its equivalent,
  • You are not in foster care.

If you are already receiving CalWORKs and would like to enroll in Cal-Learn, talk to your Employment Counselor (EC). If you do not know who your EC is, you can call one of the following numbers:

Services Offered

Cal-Learn offers the following coordinated case management and supportive services as well as financial incentives to help you graduate from high school or obtain the equivalent degree and work towards achieving economic independence:

  • Intensive case managements to support your education, health and social services.
  • Supportive services, such as child care, transportation, educational expenses, to help you attend school.
  • Financial bonuses and sanctions to encourage school attendance and good grades.

What is Cal-Learn?

Cal-Learn is a program for pregnant and parenting teens in the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program. Services are provided to encourage pregnant and parenting teens to graduate from high school or obtain the equivalent degree, become independent, and form healthy families.
