We can help CalWORKs families keep and obtain housing

Family Stabilization Program

The Family Stabilization program is available to Welfare to Work participants who are homeless, at risk of eviction or experiencing other housing emergencies or crisis situation.

CalWORKs Temporary Homeless Assistance

CalWORKs Temporary Homeless Assistance helps families pay the costs of temporary shelter. You can receive payments for accommodation for up to 16 days once in a 12-month period.

You may be eligible if:

  • you are a recipient or applicant of CalWORKs;
  • you are homeless;
  • you have less than $100 in cash.

To request Temporary Homeless Assistance, please contact your eligibility worker, come to an Alameda County Social Services Agency office, or call the Customer Service Call Center at 510-263-2420 or 1-888-999-4772.

CalWORKs Permanent Homeless Assistance

CalWORKs Permanent Homeless Assistance helps families secure their housing or prevent eviction. You may qualify for assistance to pay for your security deposit and last month's rent or up to 2 months of back rent to prevent eviction.

You may be eligible if:

  • you are a recipient of CalWORKs;
  • you are homeless or at risk of eviction;
  • you have less than $100 in cash.

To request Permanent Homeless Assistance, please contact your eligibility worker, come to an Alameda County Social Services Agency office, or call the Customer Service Call Center at 510-263-2420 or 1-888-999-4772.

CalWORKs Housing Support Program

The CalWORKs Housing Support Program provides assistance to CalWORKs families who are receiving CalWORKs benefits and need help obtaining or keeping permanent housing.

Some of the supportive services we offer include:

  • Rental Assistance
  • Security Deposits
  • Payment of Utilities
  • Moving Costs
  • Hotel Vouchers
  • Landlord Recruitment
  • Case Management
  • Housing Outreach and Placement
  • Legal Services
  • Credit Repair

You may be eligible if:

  • you have an active CalWORKs case
  • you have no fixed or regular residence
  • have an eviction notice, ordered by the court

For more information, please contact your Alameda County Social Services Agency Social Worker or contact your nearest office. You can also ask an eligibility worker or Employment Counselor for a referral to speak to a Social Worker for a referral.

CalWORKs Homeless Assistance payments will be issued via Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT).
