Human Relations Commission (HRC)

To preserve human rights, and work to foster mutual respect for all people who live or work in Alameda County.

The Alameda County Human Relations Commission was created in1964 to create an environment in which each person may realize their highest potential unhampered by any discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigrant status, gender, age, actual or perceived sexual orientation, and mental or physical feasibilities protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The commission consists of sixteen (16) members appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. Each supervisor can nominate three members from their district. There is one seat available to the Alameda County Mayors' Conference. The HRC also nominates one member to serve on the Commission on the Status of Women.
